Hell: The beginning

Before there was purgatory - there was hell.

A small sleepy town in Iowa - population unknown.
A smaller liberal arts college of about 1100.

A cool November morning. No one is aware of what is about to begin. The birth of something that no one could ever predict and a location that has always seemed relatively "normal" and relatively "safe" - a math classroom.

A fearless leader, lets call him Mij, enters a classroom of almost 15. Shocked by the size of this classroom, he steps back and begins calculating. How many can he kill in the first few days? His hope is to eliminate 10, but only succeeds in losing 3. He drops hints of his close relationship with the Devil, but the students do not yet realize what has happened.

Mij loads more work on these lost souls. They find solace in each other and eventually it occurs to them, after several days without sleep, that indeed - they have inadvertently found themselves in Hell.

Abstract Algebra is not for the weak of mind and definitely not for the weak of spirit.

Preliminary Information

The loss of intellect and sanity can be very disturbing and difficult to deal with. However, in some situations, if the loss happens to an entire collective, the minuscule shreds of remaining hope will bond together and find a way to sustain them.

Such a situation occurred in the fall of 95. A situation so dire, it caused a group to rely on each other for survival. It was a group of previously clear minded intelligent Mathematicians.

This group entered a class with a brilliant Algebraist - for what would soon become a dance with destiny, a Tango if you will, with the dark side of Math.

It all begins in a small town in Iowa. I will be your guide, L12 or more commonly known as 2e. Before I proceed, I need to make the following disclaimers....

  • Everything contained in this blog will be absolutely true! (up to isomorphism)
  • Names, dates and places will be changed-ish, to protect the not so innocent.
